Cut off of Slakah the Beatchild- Soul Movement vol.1, good, mellow, jazzy shit, I usually go through periods where i can't stand to hear one more "soft" beat...Kinda like the last Foreign Exchange album, that album was mass heap of sappy garbage. but this yeah this is good if you can pick this up please do. Not to mention he has a track with Shad, a fav around this parts..the track(Now a daze) was in Shads album though.

Salute to Orlando magic for stomping on Celtics in their own court(none of that Garden shiet there can only be one Madison Square Garden), though I had little faith with them holding on to leads and props to Master of panic proving shaq wrong....Conference finals should be interesting Nuggets vs LA , I don't see the nuggets having the discipline to pull it off, though they should. Cavs vs Orlando...will not be surprised if Orlando gives the Cavs fits, this one of those match-up problems.

Star trek was an excellent film, they did a great job bridging the gap between the geeks and the regular people...on to Terminator Salvation this weekend.

Getting back into the gym recently, hoop and working out, I had not gotten the memo that my ass is old...aching back and knees withstanding...glad I joined though.

Picked up Juliani, from a pal. Its a good album, has several skippable tracks but overall strong solid effort, some times his halting flow throws me off though...other than that I'm also waiting to hear Machanjamaa from Abbas and the Kalamashaka release, the marketing in K.E. must be different because these ninjas have upwards of four singles floating around....and no album yet ....

Enjoy the memorial weekend!!

So, the crew that set it off, is about to drop an album -Jamhuri Day, I got myself a promo track in addition to the track I heard( from minute 25) on this African hiphop radio show in Holland....and it is dope, dope.... dope, I feel I should temper it, because on one hand its not like they doing anything out of this world, new or revolutionizing their sound but nah if I'm bumping to this and I'm furiously nodding my head, and enjoying this..then thats dope to me...so about the tracks..

The first one Featuring Yvonne with chiz'n brain on the boards...Kama kills it, he sets it of lovely that was ill...since 'constantly kwenye kona' ...his flow is a bit faster these days, but i mess with that, they do better job sandwiching roba, he has been lack luster for the last few tracks i have heard, but the star? Vigeti aka Representative wa mangandula ....obliterates it " hardcore kutoka vidole za mguu mpaka utosi" ...Filthy. roll na wakamba unaelewa vile navyosema?/ yaani ndumba haarifu...

'Wanabonga tu' is another excellent produced track..crap I went overboard describing the first track...but this is an excellent track look out for it on bnts namba 11.

I think personally Vigeti is a sick emcee, the sickest emcee in KE period (I mean this all said knowing i have never heard how he would hold down an album by himself which that in itself is disappointing ..but ehhh), but ninja kills each and every track he is in i can't say i have heard a weak verse...

The playoffs started with bang, but it seems like they are fizzling out, off the jump I don't care for Boston... but I can say objectively they are incredibly overrated team, none of the leaders of that squad went anywhere further than Conference championship, that says a lot about them..., they had the best record in the L, but they were pushed to 7 games by an 8th seed that did not even post a .500 record, and cannot even win on the road??? disgusting... perhaps they close out the series today....perhaps, but bron is not about to let that happen, so will see about that tonight. The spurs are a whiney, hacking ass squad...cot damn Duncan has never committed a foul ever, and horry is goon, disgust....am surprised bruce lui kang bowen has been quiet, the head gooon himself, even role players act like they haven't fouled anyone...The hornets are doing a good job, but if they don't have David west then its wrap come Monday...Oh and CP3 is an excellent point guard. I hope the MVP and LA close out tonight, fuck a u tah(except dwill lol)...boozer has been abused all series by odom, his defense is horrible...

Rising down new roots album coming April 29th can;t wait to pick this up, form the few tracks I have seen/heard (Get busy is crazy,PD cracks verse is nice, the drums and synth dopeness) and the track in bold I can't wait to hear, its Malik b's response to Water(Phrenolgy album), should be interesting. I'm also tryna see if I could go see em when they(as Erykah's guests) come around my way next month.

I'm still waiting for my copy of Mc Kah's -Subira, Did Wakamba Wawili drop? I also picked up a mixtape from Rags to records called beats za hype, some good shit on there , the production impressed me most, nice to hear producers improving on their craft(the dude nik punk is definitely doing his thing), played this the whole weekend. On one of the tracks "...Mtaani tunachomwa na jua kali/ ka Pili pili/ Mpaka tunaishiwa Morale", dark track, Definitely not for radio I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Peace!

Sadly one of my favorite shows came to end, scratch that ends on Monday (but a damn leak was making round on the intanets...gave in saw the leak, i mean i have been catching it on demand immediately they had it on there,
* Spoilers Alert skip this part*

At first i was mad the way they took out Omar, then i came around to him getting killed by irritating ass Kenard, i mean a big shootout scene and either Chris, snoop or Omar dying woulda been too Hollywood, and that is not the wire, so i was cool with the way he went, harsh realty you live the way of the gun, you get got and disappear with absolutely not fuss ironic huh? considering ninja used to cause a ruckus every time. I got some measure of satisfaction when it was mike that got snoop, felt sad Dukie became the younger Bubbs, enjoyed that Gus got to the bottom of Templeton's worthless lying ass. How can i hate on Detective Kima's snitching ass, but respect Daniels integrity? Ain't it ironic that Marlo case woulda have crumbled because of lester yet he is reason why Marlo is no longer in the street? ..and fucking cheese what a back stabber. end of spoiler...

Salute to a great show, no qualms about the ending whatsoever.

I picked this up the other day, Shad (born Shadrach Kabango) - 'The Old Prince'. Rwandese cat born in KE but currently residing in Canada, dope ass album, dude can rhyme his ass off, the type that you have listen carefully not to miss the metaphors favorite track is "i don't like to", the second verse in this song is just nasty..., "the old prince still lives at home" is another dope song. Sample tracks from his website Shad. overall a dope album, i like it. peep the video of 'i don't like to'..nice.

Great article on the young'ns and hip hop as it relates to the Violence back home, Kenya Hip Hop for Peace

Great line up, 'Si hisaa', one of the better tracks in the 'Anga banga' album, Prolly the illest hov AG remix, those drums on Beirut roc boys remix are crazy. The nako2nako track is dope as well, pleasant surprise to hear pfunk still making tracks. 'On da mic' by Landmynz is dope...straight boom bap.

Yassshhh! we slow flows ya'll to death, reaching like midget for cookie jar...ha ha its all good though. ...aiight so we finally upped our first cast for this year. Mix that Abas charisma "they call it kitumoto in Japanese", Vigetis wordplay , Tumis poetry, Gza's other wordly Lyricism, Maradona's realness (gotta feel it oozing from his words), Premier mic destroying skills from Zubz, Doom's fantastic 4 killing flow ....sprinkle a little bit of 'Ootz's' opera -influenced soundscape on 'Whats real', Synth skills on 'slow flow'.... a double dose of uChizi ndani ya mitambo, Crazy drums amid chants of 'get out'..end result BNTS 007!!!.

If I could borrow some words from my man G-ni "BNTS is here for 007, fuck James! word is Bond". Not whole lot to add, jsut several shoutouts....AQ for coming thru with the bnts sound bite though I requested it kinda last minute, Marazzmattaz for logo good looks, Mista hyde...thanks for the shout out, G-ni's..as always good looks and SK for sharing the tracks good looks again.

'Siku Njema' is the latest offering from the group Wenyeji who are part of the Ukoo flani collective. Initially from the Ukoo Flani website i read it was gonna be called 'D Cinema' but that was dropped and they went with 'Siku Njema'. Wenyeji is part of the Ukoo flani collective but its a duo, two emcees Zakah and Swaleh. The sound on this album is decidedly different from past Ukoo albums but on par with the preceding ones.Majority of the production I would believe is handled be by stable mate Chiz n' brain, with help from Musoyka, Tshazi and Producers from Ragz to records(they are home to some of the heads on 'Kilio cha Haki'). The features are kept to a minimum which is always a good thing especially for a debut album.

From the cover I could see why they would go with aforementioned title it looks like picture directly captured from a TV. In the 'intro' we hear MLK advocating for a non violent means to get your point across...did not quite see how it was supposed to fit with the whole album. The intro though cross-fades pretty well into the next track 'imagine', 'Gaza' the singer who does most the singing in the album sets it off with an opera like sounds-cape in the background, before zakah hops on the track about survival , the hook aptly describes this ...living on bread and water alone, struggling to keep their heads above water. He continues... picture me rhyming about material things, booty shaking and the like. Gaza meshes really well in this track too. Swaleh warns... "Majority wanapanga kuingia bunge na mapanga"... 'Mizani is the absolutely 'livest' track in the whole album, the whole track reminds me of 'dandora love'. Its a nod your head type of track, the bass-line is dope... (would Kenyan dj's would bump this in the club?) and the hook is catchy enough without sounding like desperate attempt to get mainstream acceptance.

On the one track that has a feature 'Soldier', producer He-Rum crafts a rhythmic reggae-like soundscape as swaleh and kah spit on the decay of their community referring to it 'sodoma' akin to the biblical city of decay. 'Kitu Sewer' lends a hand on this track and as it is customary he rips it. The singer on the hook does a pretty good job to complement the emcee's. In one of my favorite tracks 'Elimisha' the chic laughing when the track starts reminds of 'the blast' off the 'train of thought'. This IMO one of the better beats in the LP with a background wailing voice. Though I appreciate that they are more than your cookie cutter surface artists, I disagree with their assertion about Mugabe, only problem I had with the track is the length quite short(on the flip side though its about time tracks coming out of Kenya were made shorter a whole album of five/six minutes will not do). On the interlude the concept was dope replaying a mock interview that they did... at least the responses were true and revealing.. 'una rhyme na una reason' and their plan to also start a library. The track on the back ground is dope I would not mind getting my hands on that.

On 'Real-life experience' they take a shot at politicians about the promises they make during election campaigns then after make it into parliament, the disappear never to be seen again. Speaking on many scandals the ministers participate in. 'Moyo Wangu' is another of my favs its just they way its put together, a whole sum of the beat, the singing is aiight and most of all its love track which is rare for UFMM. Shows that they are regular cats who holla at girls too. Ma Issue ('Vichwa zi face juu') is the best beat on the album but like elimisha its short. The album kinda stumbles as we approach the end a lack lustre 'Ndani ya Kazi', weak offering on 'heartbeat', before it picks up again on 'Jirushe'. On of the more surprising tracks in the album 'Tunavyoishi', a story telling type track about one of their homies who gets killed. Had to step my sheng game ha ha...but at the end of it you get to see that its not all gravy as he details how the protagonist gets mowed by ma banga (cops) and they continue with another story on how people move from the rural areas, overestimating life in the cities only to soon realise its not what it cracked up to be... so he resorts to a life of crime.

Overall great album several if any flubs, but nevertheless the duo crafted a great album. I would give it a

I know its a tad bit late to do end year list but here is mine musically of course.
This are the albums that have kept the year going for me, some admittedly thru to this year because they came out later in the year.

#1. First up is "headphone music in a parallel world" from SA residing emcee whose release is THE best album I have heard in long minute bar #3 none. The only skipable track to me is ' Warp speed', everything else ranges from dope to crazy dope . The concept of the album also flows very well. The one thing that impressed me most was Growth this being his second album you could easily tell Mr. Last Letta stepped it up and in terms of content its socially and politically conscious which I like a lot. Production wise it does not get any better than this, trust me. Fav tracks 'Premier MC', Madiba tribute track ('Distress log date Jan 1990') 'Get Out'(Crazy track will be up on upcoming cast), 'Parallel world', Let me not list the whole album...

#2. 'Jiulize Wenyeji wamefikaje kwenye scenery' MC zakah asks. Next up is the most
recent offering from Ukooflani's stable, Wenyeji's 'Siku Njema'. My man's reaction after he heard the track 'mizani' coulda been the apt if I could describe IT, but for me 'Imagine' had me wildin' which is ironic considering its not even a hype type track, but listened to that and yashh!!! the best "intro" to an album, though I have my qualms with 'gaza'(Singer on track), but this was some momentous shit, this album is second because I had heard some tracks, but still was on heavy rotation. Fav tracks, 'Elimisha','Ma issue'(Vichwa ziface juu), 'imagine', 'Tunavyoishi' (Nice story telling track..need to step up my sheng game lol) and'Moyo Wangu' On the hidden track Mysa youth the kid who goes fifth..rips it, ha ha.

#3. The posthumous release by one of the best, Jdilla aka Jay dee The shinning track comes in third. Great album, cat will be truly missed R.I.P. FavEmc2 featuring common, Dime piece feat dwele, One won't do(Peep video on blog)

#4 Game Theory, tracks 'Clock With No Hands''Don't Feel by the roots also stayed in rotation for minute, great album not that many people seemed to think it was great but heck i take Thought over any emcee on his bad day, I loved the production on this album too, great work. FavRight 'and 'False media'

#5
A Piece Of Strange..The first album I bought in 06 great album as well, this was truly slept on album Kno is underrated as producer, overall great production loved every bit of it, Cunninlynguists dropped a great album. I had been sleeping on deacon as an emcee he impressed me. Fav tracks 'Caved-in', 'Hell fire', 'never know why' featuring IT and 'beautiful girl'

#6. Anga Banga...Abas kubaff dropped his first solo album, after losing the material
he had for the album, this what he put out. Great record aside from the skits...and 2050 track has no business being on the album..thats just me. It seemed a tad bit bandwagonish for an established emcee, the features did not help either. The production was on point. Fav tracks title track 'Anga banga', Tikakunyaku feat Vigeti and Chiz n' brain (rmx look out for this on the upcoming cast),Hi saa(Siasa) featuring bamboo, Kross faya and boom boom room(felt he could have done better with that beat). the cover is dope love the whole graff idea.

#7 Number seven for me is the album Universo ao Meu Redor by an artist known as Marisa Monte. This is my sleep to music, chill to music and Sunday morning soundtrack always...great album i love all of it.

#8. Sara Tavares- Balance

Great album from Portuguese raised Cape verdian, nice music to chill to, mellow stuff . Just read she is gonna be in DC, on damn weekday arrghh..aching to go. Fav tracks 'balance', 'One love', 'Dam bo' and 'lisboa kuya'

#9. Nas dropped a great record, one of my favs this year. The production was stellar as well. fav tracks 'Money over BS', 'can't forget about you 'and 'black republicans'.

#10 Tie Ghostface -'Fishscale', The Coup -' Pick a bigger weapon'(Should have been at ten alone but i had hard time getting into the beats had to grow on me Boots kicks knowledge for real), Murs / 9Th Wonder - 'Murray's Revenge' Corrine Bailey Rae- 'Corrine Bailey Rae'.

....and we are back, This months show was one of my most fav working on...figuring I was hoping I would top last months show, so the challenge and motivation was there, (not to mention the need to fill a void..ha ha). Enought about that though, "lemmie freestyle stroke this cast ka tilapia" , If i could borrow a line from doobiez whose steez is bordeline 'Rockness monsterlike'.

Got crazy beats and heat from an intercontinental connect with emcees who never met(gotta love the internet) to mold a 'lethal combi' cut, everything butter from the hook to the emcees to the beat. A cat who flows out of his element in a crazy mix of sotho makes wonder whether cat is really making sense but believe me he does and featuring afrikaner mc Jaak..
KONtraversealFABetiks aka Konfab is that dude. Doom also makes an appearance on the cast, From Sweden to Maputo we bring heat.... crazy horns, hectic violins and potent keys.

Huge shouts to my man Infidel aka seff aka Kamjesh in the flesh that intro is crazy.., Mista hyde aka diehard good looks man..the drops were butter had hard time picking which one, 1mic for coming thru and hitting me with a drop, Nick matete over at Redera look out for mixtape 'prelude to dark september', Movie buff good looks mama, for sliding that heat my way. and last but not least you taking time out of your busy day to bump to this.

Feedback/Critic/Opinion much appreciated.

Vamoose!

This a Follow -up to the previous post, the show aired and the few who managed to get time shared the feedback/critic....good look on that. This months show was special edition in that we trying to put you on to hip hop from KE, so maybe most of this ya'll have heard, but I had immense fun doing this show. We got my man Seff but ya'll know him as Makanga , absolutely doing his damn thing, one of my fav cuts in the cast. DRUGZ cats out of KE also brought heat with their offering, 'my crew'. UFMM 'You' has had me buggin for minute that album is lava.

I was debating between 'nairobi all stars' and 'mangirima' , as to which posse cut to up on the cast but I ended going with the former cause Naz killed it on that track.I wish for my own selfish reasons she would just do a straight up 'Hip Hop' album, maybe we'll see it since Wyre is on the solo tip. L'ness and Atu are the other femcee's featured in the cast, look out for STL material in the next cast. We also had to up that "beef" track, had to I like the flow by the last cat from Klepto, and Chiwawas response was not to shabby either. Chiwawa where is album fam?

Mwaf also made his presence felt, concept of the track was dope..

Cuts I woulda liked to play but I missed out on, that smoggiz and wodhes cut, if anyone has this please, please share..Kenyanna shit, to pay respects to the slain brother.

Shout outs, Kalcherian much props man appreciate the favors and the help, my man izz stupid as mics(windscreens) fucked the tag team man we were fitting ta become batman and robin..LOL, Die hard with ear to the streets always holds us down and finally mwaf, buddah blaze and dj zak..those regulal monthly events ain't easy but they do the damn thing much props!!. KE emcees, promoters, activists in the mamaland and otherwise big up to you. My BNTS fam g-ni and em up DTM is coming.

Yeah mayne...we are bizack with the second show for 06'. As usual, spotlighting the finest emcees
beneath the surface. Gems...My man 'K-Sewer' aka -K-swiss absolutely beasts the mic , with lines like"uta kuwaje na FOCUS na we mwenyewe hauji kule ulikotoka?" he asks and" usione nyuki kwa maua udhani walipoteza ukali", i mean he even has line using Fadhili Williams(R.I.P) , and forget if that beat sounds like Dre..that arrangement is still Hectic-ly Crazy, the snares, the kicks, the keys, drums.... immitation is the best form of flattery is what they say. 'Fid-Q' kills its too.. lots of Swahili hip hop in this cast.

We had two tributes one to J-Dilla, jay dee (R.I.P), he died last month. One of the best producers ever..his work is so expansive, so mashed some of his work, pretty hard picking what to play but we able to get it done. 'U.K.O.O. Flani/Mau Mau' tribute to Munyakei very very dope track, the cat singing has to be one of the best Kenyan singers..Nice.

Old 'NTM' tune, Some 'shida mingi' tunes one featuring a beautiful young lass with pipes to match ..Sa Sa..get em...reminds me of dogs being set on me. Snazz D makes an appreance one of the better emcee out of SA. Ben sharpa brings the abstract lyrics to accompany anti-normal beats..dope nonetheless. Shouts.. JKE. for crazy ass picture appreciate that man. G-ni's for coming thru with the track good looks. Nadja for hooking up that NTM remix track thank you.

Its been a minute (ok a month or so since my last podcast) its meant to be a monthly thing, but as usual life in its bitching ways has been throwing a curve ball here, a sucka punch there, an edge rush, blindside hit some, you get the picture...etc etc. BTS(BNTS) is back with show 2, we have got an immense mix of talent, a South African poet dropping a lovely spoken word piece, an emcee oozing with so much energy not to mention flow and delivery. Let alone content your only choice is to feel him. I had to play him back to back. Blitz -in' with a hook like this "set my people free uhuru means freedom and i ain't talking shackles or chains", a Mode spitting IX times out of his damn mind, call it rhyming on sterioids, K'naan, stops by dropping introspect on the cast, emcee's itching with a problem... lots, Shida Mingi, The Kid shows UShahidi behind the mic devices and the usual mainstays Ukoo Flani Mau Mau.

Several shout outs, my man AD (Africanism 06' heads are not ready)...who did the intro feeling the whole concept behind celebrating Richard Pryor. He only did that Mfalme beat..yes that one Mashifta joint thanks for blessing me with that. Izziatic appreciate those few bars.."its funny how they hated the entire culture from Casblanca right down to ...Joburg" . Get to the studio already!!!. G-ni fam...lol at this rate you are going to have to start charging me sampling fee's..."ni mazishi ya kapuka". AQ the Insomniac himself thanks for the late night politricks. Thanks for sliding gems my way man appreciate that.
